Imposter

about

This song is the screwtape letters for church leadership in 2022. If Satan and His demons got together and talked about how to kill the church, what would they tell pastors to do and say? It’s about the temptation that churches face everyday to compromise the truth of God’s word in order to be liked, to gain approval, to grow numbers, and yes, to make money. It’s about churches that focus on the wrong things— on entertaining people, on teaching people self love, on embracing sin as “authenticity”, and on telling people they are victims instead of sinners. Churches who are afraid to offend. And the people in those churches whose minds are comfortable but their souls are starving.

lyrics

Where’s the interest, when’s the next attraction
Be the one they seek
Keep them laughing, put some coffee out or
They’ll stay home next week

Are you throwing it all away
Throwing it all away
Are you throwing it all away

Be engaging, entertain the masses
Give them everything
Don’t convict them, don’t be controversial
Sing them all to sleep

Say nothing and they’ll leave the light behind
Don’t tell them that you’re building it all on a lie
Your idol of acclaim won’t satisfy
Oh

Are you throwing it all away
Throwing it all away
Are you throwing it all away
For what

Make them victims, the whole world against them
Minimize mistakes
Change their focus, sin is unimportant
Lead them all astray

Say nothing and they’ll leave the light behind
Don’t tell them that you’re building it all on a lie
Your idol of acclaim won’t satisfy
Oh

Are you throwing it all away
Throwing it all away
Are you throwing it all away
For what

Are you throwing it all away
Throwing it all away
Are you throwing it all away
For what

Every single day there’s a new imposter
Is there no one who will tell us the truth
(We’re fading)
All will be lost until sanity can break through

(Are you throwing it all)
(Are you throwing it all away)
(Are you throwing it all)
Say nothing at all
Say something and all this will come to an end
Say nothing at all
Say something and all this will come to an end
